  • Dock diving with Ernie Sims

    December 16th, 2011

Puyallup Spring Fair April 2010 my dear friend Ernie Sims III and his lovely wife Brooke flew out from Detroit to have some fun with Lola. The event was a national event sponsored by Dock Dogs. There are 3 categories you can compete in Lola excells in Big air & Speed retrieve. Ernie and Lola made a great team, there best jump that weekend was 20 feet one inch. Here is a video of Ernie & Lola competing this jump was 15 feet 9 inches. We made it to the finals and Lola placed and earned titles this weekend.

    (1) Big Air where you dog does a running jump from a 40 foot long dock into the pool and the distance is measure.

    (2) Speed retrieve where your dog has a 60 foot distance to end of pool to retrieve a toy off of a timer. You start up on dock with 20 feet measured off, starting line with a laser beam, 40 feet of pool to timer with toy.

    (3) Vertical retrieve where a large vertical measured pole is positioned over the pool and toy is suspended, height of jump is measured.

Once you have mastered all three events your dogs can compete for Iron dog titles.

  • ADBA Interview with Ernie Sims by Heather Devito

    October 19th, 2011

    ernie-sims

Heather: How old were you when you began playing football?

Ernie: When I first started playing football, I was 11 years old. I never got the chance to play flag football, so I went straight into playing tackle football.

Heather: As you grew up, was football your favorite sport or did you have others that you enjoyed playing?

Ernie: Football has always been my favorite sport and it has run in my family for years. I also enjoyed track and field because it always helped me excel in football with my speed. I’ve tried different sports such as baseball, soccer, and basketball but I quickly realized that I was simply too physical to play those sports.

Heather: The NFL hasn’t had much positive publicity lately on players who’ve owned APBT’s. How do you plan on using your love of the breed to change that?

Ernie: Although the NFL hasn’t had positive publicity about APBT’s, I’m working with Cheryl Caragan to change people’s Ernie with Junior and Kurupt perspective about this breed. I have also been working with my team’s PR department trying to bring positive light to this breed such as putting a couple of my dogs in pet calendars. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to fight for this breed and get people to understand APBT’s.
